WorkflowOne, a leading North American managed print and promotional marketing services provider, faced a major IT challenge after acquiring The Relizon Company: aging, power‑hungry VAX hardware was consuming nearly all UPS capacity, occupying scarce data center space, and driving high maintenance costs—while full system replacement would be costly, disruptive, and require retraining staff.

Working with Quayle Consulting and Stromasys, WorkflowOne virtualized its VAX cluster with CHARON‑VAX on an HP ProLiant server and external disk array. The cutover reduced power from 9,360W to 600W, slashed heat output, shrank physical footprint from 48 sq ft to four 9‑inch rack units, and cut annual maintenance from over $100,000 to about $10,000—savings that paid for the solution within a year; a second license was later purchased for disaster recovery.
