A Stromasys Case Study
Renesas Electronics' Palm Bay site relied on 11 aging Sun SPARC systems (five SparcStations, five Sparc Ultras and a Sun Blade) running SunOS/Solaris to control furnaces and semiconductor production. Hardware failures were causing about three outages a year with roughly two days of recovery per failure, and a key process took 34 minutes—creating growing risk and unacceptable performance bottlenecks.
Renesas worked with Quayle Consulting to migrate all 11 systems to Stromasys Charon-SSP over about three weeks and added VMotion for added resilience. The migration cut failure risk by removing dependency on old hardware, sped overall performance at least twofold (one process dropped from 34 minutes to under 5), reduced worst-case recovery from ~two days to about an hour, and allowed rapid, low-effort migrations thereafter.
