A Stromasys Case Study
A large financial services company in New Zealand was running its key life insurance applications on a legacy VAX system that was reaching capacity and was incompatible with modern, company-wide disaster recovery systems. The challenge was to replicate the exact functionality of this critical legacy software on a modern platform to support a state-of-the-art disaster recovery site without the high cost of rewriting and testing all of their existing applications. They partnered with vendor Stromasys for a solution.
The solution was Stromasys's CHARON-VAX software, which provided an exact functional replication of the legacy VAX system. The implementation, assisted by partner UBS, resulted in a modernized system that emulated the legacy environment without any changes to applications or user interfaces. The project delivered a marked improvement in disaster recovery with a five-minute recovery target, a 90% reduction in data transfer time to the EMC SAN, and significant energy savings from moving to a modern Intel server.
