Double virtualization with Charon and VMware improves performance for Kraus & Naimer

Kraus & Naimer, a global leader in electrical switches with factories and sales centers around the world, faced aging VAX systems (17 machines) that were costly to maintain, hard to support, and unable to scale while the company prepared a long-term SAP migration. Needing a reliable interim solution and IT consolidation in its Liechtenstein data center, the company evaluated virtualization options and selected CHARON‑VAX.

Kraus & Naimer virtualized all VAX systems with CHARON‑VAX and VMware across three regional installations on three ESX servers, migrated storage to a SAN, and upgraded OpenVMS to 7.3 with support from Stromasys and partner b.it.co. The move decommissioned old hardware, delivered dramatic performance gains (a 30× improvement in testing and jobs reduced from eight hours to ten minutes), eliminated outage risk, and cut energy and maintenance costs.
