CHARON-AXP provides safe harbor for Linnenbecker’s business-critical ERP system

Wilhelm Linnenbecker GmbH, a German building-supplies group supporting 19 locations from its Bad Salzuflen headquarters, faced a critical IT risk: its central ERP ran on aging HP AlphaServer 4100s with OpenVMS serving about 500 users. Spare parts shortages, rising maintenance and power costs, and limited data-center space made modernization urgent, but the company needed a non-disruptive way to replace failing hardware while preserving business continuity.

Linnenbecker worked with Invenate and deployed Stromasys CHARON-AXP on an HP ProLiant host to emulate the Alpha environment, running Windows Server and booting the emulator from the production SAN after a successful test phase. The migration was seamless to users, improved application performance, eliminated batch and interactive bottlenecks, preserved development tools and historical data, and integrated into existing backups—giving IT the breathing room to plan a long-term ERP strategy.
