A Stromasys Case Study
Harz‑Klinikum Wernigerode‑Blankenburg, a regional medical group formed by a 2004 merger, faced the challenge of keeping legacy OpenVMS AlphaServer accounting data accessible for compliance while avoiding costly, hard‑to‑maintain hardware and complex data consolidation. Patient records were archived to microfilm, but the aging Alpha systems still needed to run intermittently, and spare parts and maintenance costs made that increasingly impractical.
The hospital virtualized its Alpha servers using Stromasys CHARON‑AXP and engaged Invenate to design and migrate the environment, consolidating the two Alphas onto a single virtual system selectable from Windows and covered by one license. The migration proceeded smoothly, delivering better performance, eliminating the old hardware risks, and keeping compliance data available—prompting the hospital to consider CHARON again for future system replacements.
