Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital of Stanford faced the challenge of scaling and standardizing its clinical training across a large network of 52 hospitals. As a growing healthcare organization, it needed a consistent and effective way to train registered nurses, particularly for complex procedures like procedural sedation, without disrupting daily hospital operations. The hospital partnered with the vendor Strivr to implement a virtual reality (VR) immersive learning solution.

Strivr created a customized VR training course consisting of three live-action modules filmed on-site. This solution provided a risk-free, highly realistic environment for nurses to practice and repeat procedures until they achieved proficiency. As a result of working with Strivr, 84% of nurses felt more prepared for procedural sedation, 87% felt more confident in administering medication, and 88% felt more confident in assessing patient conditions. The hospital successfully standardized training across all locations and improved overall patient care and clinical outcomes.
