Lopay wanted to improve point-of-sale payments for sole proprietors and small businesses, especially mobile-first merchants that needed a fast, secure way to accept contactless payments without extra hardware. Working with Stripe, Lopay looked to add Tap to Pay through Stripe Terminal so users could take payments directly on a smartphone and keep payouts fast.
Stripe implemented Tap to Pay with Stripe Terminal SDK, enabling Lopay to launch within a week and let merchants start accepting contactless payments in minutes. The result was strong adoption and sales growth: one in five payments for mobile-based businesses now comes via Tap to Pay, and 50% of businesses adopted it within a week of onboarding, far above Lopay’s 10%–20% expectation.
