Torrens University modernises the payment experience for 19K+ students with Stripe

Torrens University, Australia’s fastest-growing university, needed a more student-friendly and scalable way to handle tuition payments, especially for international students facing limited cross-border options and a confusing banking interface. Its legacy payment portal and disconnected providers made payments slow, manual, and hard to manage. The university turned to Stripe, using Stripe Payments and Stripe Elements to modernize the experience.

With Stripe, Torrens University consolidated multiple payment channels into one platform, added new payment methods and nine major currencies, and made checkout faster and more intuitive. The result was a redesigned payment solution implemented about 66% faster than building it internally, with end-to-end delivery in roughly 10 weeks, and a reduction of more than two hours of paperwork to minutes for 19K+ students. Stripe also helped cut failed transactions, improve reporting, and is expected to save the university more than $100K per year through routing automation.
