Sonic Automotive wanted to transform EchoPark from a local, browse-only car site into a full online buying experience that let customers find a vehicle, value a trade-in, secure financing, sign paperwork, and pay online. To do that, Sonic Automotive needed a secure, easy-to-integrate payments partner, and it chose Stripe to handle high-value car transactions.
Stripe implemented Stripe Connect and Stripe Financial Connections to route payments to the correct delivery centers, verify bank accounts instantly, and support debit, credit, ACH, and digital wallets. With Stripe, Sonic Automotive launched on time and drove major growth: about 30% of total sales volume is now generated online, it sold roughly $60 million in cars online in the first nine months, and it was on track to exceed $200 million in online car sales by the end of 2023.
