Lightspeed is an advanced commerce platform that provides POS and omnichannel software to retailers and restaurateurs, powering about 115,000 locations and roughly $29B in gross transaction volume globally. After launching Lightspeed Payments in 2019 on a legacy payfac stack, the company faced reliability and scale challenges common to traditional payfac models and needed an enterprise-grade payments partner to enable omnichannel payments, unified customer views, streamlined payouts, and continued innovation.
In January 2020 Lightspeed moved to Stripe Connect as a modern payfac, allowing fast implementation (live in three months) and flexible tools to manage money movement, pricing, reporting, and new services like POS payments, subscriptions, and capital. The integration with Stripe Billing, Terminal, and Capital increased customer adoption, helped Lightspeed offer a one-stop solution for merchants, and drove higher revenue while providing a platform for ongoing product innovation.
