A Stripe Case Study

Preview of the KickStarter Case Study

Kickstarter extends its global reach and continues to enhance the crowdfunding experience with Stripe

Kickstarter, a platform that helps creators fund projects, needed to expand into new international markets but faced a major hurdle: establishing local subsidiaries and staying compliant with varied regional tax and regulatory requirements. To grow globally without getting bogged down in complex compliance and bookkeeping, Kickstarter sought a payments partner to manage those challenges.

Working with Stripe (Connect, Payments, and Radar), Kickstarter created local entities and matched creators with backers in new markets, enabling launches in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mexico within months. As a result, Kickstarter now accepts card payments from customers in 195 countries and has helped fund more than 160,000 projects, with Stripe removing much of the internal compliance burden.
