A Stripe Case Study
The British Council is a global education organisation that delivers English learning, classes and official exams in more than 100 countries, serving over 80 million people. To expand internationally and introduce mobile-ready experiences, it needed a payments partner that could integrate with its legacy systems, reduce costly interchange and FX fees, and support multiple local payment methods across markets.
Using Stripe’s flexible APIs and a single integration, the British Council deployed localized payment methods, a mobile-optimised checkout with Stripe Elements, and fraud controls via Radar across 144 countries. The platform streamlined reporting, lowered overheads and enabled rapid online/offline service delivery during COVID‑19, driving a 30% increase in conversion rates and a projected £5 million in incremental revenue while handling some 16 million transactions per year.
