Barkibu Increases Revenue by More Than 3,000% in 3 Years with Stripe

Barkibu, a Galicia-based pet insurance company, launched in Spain in 2021 with a major challenge: pet parents had to pay veterinary bills upfront and wait for reimbursement, creating stress at the moment they needed peace of mind. Barkibu turned to Stripe for payment processing and recurring billing support, including Stripe Payments and Stripe Billing, to build a more customer-friendly and scalable insurance experience.

With Stripe, Barkibu implemented a virtual-and-physical card program using Stripe Issuing so customers could pay clinics directly without out-of-pocket expenses, while also adding local payment methods and tools like Smart Retries to reduce failed payments. The results were significant: Barkibu expanded into four additional European markets, grew its card users by 238% in two months, and increased annual revenue from €800,000 in 2021 to €25 million in 2024—a 3,025% rise in three years.
