A Stripe Case Study
Alternative Airlines, a Surrey, England-based travel company, wanted to expand beyond major markets and offer customers more localized payment options while improving how it paid smaller airlines. Its earlier payment provider was slow to issue virtual cards, had low acceptance rates with low-cost carriers, and offered limited support for cross-border and international payment methods.
Alternative Airlines chose Stripe, using Stripe Issuing, Stripe Payments, Stripe Elements, and Stripe professional services. Stripe’s travel BIN made it easier to offer multiple interchange rates on one BIN, improving acceptance with low-cost airlines and creating a new revenue stream, while Stripe Payments and Elements enabled support for more than 85 currencies and many local payment methods. The results included a 30% increase in US authorization rates, higher conversion, reduced cart abandonment, lower foreign exchange fees, and less operational complexity.
