A Stripe Case Study
GitHub launched GitHub Sponsors to let the developer community financially support the creators of the open source projects they rely on, with GitHub matching up to $5,000 per developer. The challenge was to build a compliant, fully localized onboarding and payout experience that worked across languages and countries so anyone could both give and receive funds seamlessly.
GitHub used Stripe Connect and Stripe’s global payments network to build localized onboarding flows and global payouts quickly, cutting onboarding from a nine‑step, weeklong process to about two minutes. The Sponsors platform went from idea to live in two months, launching in 30+ countries and enabling fast, reliable payments and multi‑currency management worldwide.
