Case Study: City of San Mateo achieves real-time parking availability and increased downtown foot traffic with Streetline

A Streetline Case Study

Preview of the City of San Mateo Case Study

To help motorists find parking and improve the business climate, the City of San Mateo teamed up with Streetline and Cisco

The City of San Mateo, a busy Bay Area downtown serving nearly 100,000 residents and 600+ businesses, struggled with parking congestion that hindered shoppers and merchants. The Downtown San Mateo Association and the City sought a technology-driven alternative to traditional meters and garages to improve access and support downtown commerce.

San Mateo implemented Cisco’s networking with Streetline’s Parker smart-parking sensors and app, delivering real-time availability for 135 on-street spaces and a ParkerMap widget for merchant websites. The apps launched as the official parking guide, reducing circling, increasing foot traffic for businesses, prompting a city parking study, and creating a platform for further smart-city expansion.
