Sketchfab Utilizes Stream’s Feed Technology to Increase Performance and Reliability

Sketchfab, the 3D model sharing platform for artists, designers, architects, and more, was growing quickly and needed a better way to power its activity feeds. Its custom-built feed system, based on PostgreSQL and Redis, was becoming increasingly difficult to scale and maintain as activity volume rose.

Sketchfab chose Stream’s hosted feed API to replace its in-house setup, using Stream for both its news feed and notification feed. Stream provided built-in aggregation, ranking, and notifications, along with strong performance, reliability, and lower maintenance and infrastructure costs. The result was a more flexible and scalable feed experience, with high read performance thanks to Stream’s EU-west region and optimized infrastructure.
