How Stream’s activity feed API helps Crunchbase deliver low-latency, real-time updates

Crunchbase, the leading provider of private-company prospecting and research solutions, needed a better way to deliver timely updates to users who follow companies and markets. Its in-house feed only sent daily notifications, which wasn’t fast enough for sales and business development users who depend on real-time signals like funding rounds, hires, and IPOs. Crunchbase turned to Stream and its activity feed API to create a customizable, low-latency news feed.

Using Stream’s Java SDK and REST API, Crunchbase integrated a semi-chronological activity feed in about two months, with high-value updates boosted to the top through custom ranking. The results were strong: over half of registered users now interact with the feed in each session, driving deeper engagement, more watchlists, and more weekly active users. Stream helped Crunchbase scale reliable real-time updates across a massive and fast-changing dataset.
