Magellan Development Group’s Aqua at Lakeshore East is an 87‑story, nearly 2‑million‑square‑foot mixed‑use tower in Chicago designed by Studio/Gang. With designers, engineers, and contractors spread around the world, the project faced major document‑management challenges: maintaining control of issuances and responsibilities, coordinating multi‑party reviews across time zones, and scaling on‑demand access for all trades.

The team implemented PlansandSpecs — a centralized, role‑based online repository with multi‑level review/approval, intelligent indexing support, and web training — to streamline workflows. As a result the project finished a year ahead of schedule, earned awards including Emporis Skyscraper of the Year (2009), supported 350+ global users, and processed thousands of documents, submittals, RFIs and punchlist items, saving significant time and cost.
