A Stratus Technologies Case Study
The City of Santa Rosa Utilities Department, which manages water distribution for about 150,000 residents across 605 miles of pipeline and multiple reservoirs, needed a simple, cost‑effective way to protect its Wonderware InTouch HMI‑based control system from downtime caused by faults, failures, or natural disasters. Continuous operation was critical to respond to water main breaks, preserve electricity‑optimization pump schedules, and maintain service during earthquakes and other emergencies, especially with redundant unmanned control centers and remote operator access.
Working with consultant EMA, the city deployed Stratus everRun software to run two identical Windows servers in lockstep so the InTouch HMI remains fully operational if one server fails. The solution delivered uninterrupted control, enabled more efficient deployment of operations staff, produced rapid cost savings that covered the software, and has since been reused by EMA and Stratus at other water and wastewater facilities.
