A Stratus Technologies Case Study
Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan, serves millions of travelers and needed a mission‑critical access control system based on Johnson Controls’ P2000 running on Windows and SQL Server. Because Transportation Security Regulation Part 1542 requires doors to be monitored continuously, the airport could not tolerate downtime; traditional clustering solutions proved too cumbersome and failed required availability tests.
Stratus everRun FT software solved the problem by synchronizing two standard Windows servers into a single virtual application environment that runs one instance of P2000 on both machines simultaneously. The setup provided transparent, hardware‑level fault tolerance—if a server or device fails, P2000 keeps operating without interruption—was deployed quickly, passed tests immediately, and delivered the high availability the airport required.
