Stratus Always-On Solution Ensures Availability Of Critical Public Safety Systems

Brookline Police Department, serving a daytime population of up to 100,000, needed 24/7 availability for mission-critical public safety systems including computer-aided dispatch (CAD), arrest booking, detective case management, and records for accident reporting. Prior to the upgrade, the department relied on a manual backup server that required hours to bring online, creating unacceptable risk to officer and public safety if systems went down.

Brookline implemented Stratus everRun software on two Intel-based Dell servers to virtualize resources into a single always-on environment with automatic failover, at a cost reportedly five to six times lower than other high-availability options. The department has used everRun for more than a decade, maintaining continuous uptime through hardware failures (including a server failure on Christmas Day) and enabling maintenance without service interruption, improving emergency response reliability.
