Security Information & Management Systems (SIMS) builds alarm and security software used by central stations that monitor alarms for more than 10 million homes and businesses across 2,400 locations. Because many SIMS customers require Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing and cannot tolerate lost or delayed alarm signals, SIMS faces high liability and uptime demands: network and application availability must be continuous to ensure timely dispatch and regulatory compliance.

To meet those requirements SIMS deployed Stratus Avance high-availability software across its server arrays (supporting disaster recovery, database lookup services, SAN and file servers), allowing two standard servers to operate as a single resilient system with proactive “phone home” monitoring and minimal day-to-day maintenance. The Avance implementation (27 systems recommended/installed for customers) eliminated unscheduled downtime in SIMS’s data center, reduced operational overhead, met UL uptime criteria, and delivered the reliability and peace of mind SIMS and its clients require.
