Ensuring Disaster Preparedness With Stratus Uptime Assurance And Tritech Software

Emergency Medical Care, Inc., the contracted ambulance provider and secondary public safety answering point for Nova Scotia, needed a disaster-ready communications solution to ensure uninterrupted emergency response despite hurricane risk and other disruptions. Their goal was continuous service with 99.999% uptime and a fully redundant backup site to support routine operations and maintain contractual response times during disasters.

They deployed TriTech VisiCAD (with the VisiCAD Command Disaster Recovery Solution and EMC RepliStor) on fault-tolerant Stratus ftServer hardware and mirrored the primary center at an inland backup location with independent power and network access. Real-time replication, frequent database/log backups, and the ftServer’s continuous-availability design eliminated failovers and reduced administrative overhead. Semi-annual evacuation tests and a successful Category 3 disaster drill demonstrated seamless cutover and provided assured, tested continuity for Nova Scotia residents.
