Assuring CAD CONTINUOUS AVAILABILITY For One Of The World’s Largest Ambulance Services

The Ambulance Service of New South Wales — the third-largest ambulance service in the world, answering a call about every 28 seconds — needed to ensure continuous availability for its mission‑critical computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system as demand rose. Previously running four separate CAD instances across control centers, the organization sought a consolidated primary data center (with Windows/SQL compatibility) and a disaster‑recovery plan to guarantee 24/7/365 dispatch operations and seamless integration with telephony, mobile data terminals and other clinical systems.

They implemented Stratus ftServer fault‑tolerant systems running TriTech VisiCAD Command, supported by proactive Stratus monitoring and a warm DR site mirrored on the opposite side of Sydney Harbour. The redundant hardware, automated diagnostics and managed support simplified IT operations, enabled a single application and database to serve all four control centers, sped component replacement, and delivered the uptime and confidence needed to maintain continuous ambulance dispatch.
