AREU Relies On Stratus To Ensure Lombardy’s EMS Psaps Are ALWAYS ON

AREU (Azienda Regionale Emergenza Urgenza) is Lombardy’s regional EMS agency responsible for coordinating emergency medical calls, tissue/organ transport and the 112 service across a 9,300 sq. mile area serving about 13.5 million people. Tasked with consolidating twelve fragmented PSAPs into four resilient, interoperable centers while maintaining 24/7 operations for more than 1.15 million calls per year, AREU needed a fault‑tolerant, always‑on platform and standardized business processes to enable mutual backup and region‑wide coordination.

AREU deployed Beta 80’s emma/iO CAD on Stratus ftServer fault‑tolerant systems (with VMware and 24/7 support), hosted in a centralized next‑generation data center. The solution delivered five‑nines availability, unified procedures and GIS/messaging/mobile integration, enabled PSAP failover and new telemedicine capabilities (EKG, real‑time images/data), improved regional situational awareness and resource sharing, and produced strong cost‑effectiveness and industry recognition.
