ALWAYS-ON AVAILABILITY Opens New Horizons For Maritime Communications Company

H2OSatellite, a UK maritime communications provider founded in 1998 and already equipping over 3,000 ships, faced the challenge of replacing insecure, PC-based onboard networks with a more robust architecture. Central server and thin-client models improved security but created a single point of failure—unacceptable for ships that lack IT staff and for which downtime can have severe financial, regulatory and safety consequences.

H2OSatellite partnered with Stratus and deployed H2OUptime using Stratus ftServer fault‑tolerant systems and a thin-client design, delivering an always-on, marinized server that “rides through” hardware failures and requires no crew intervention. The solution provided guaranteed uptime, simpler operations and 24/7 support, opened a broader sales pipeline across the shipping market, and materially reduced customers’ financial, operational and safety risks.
