A Top-Ranking Commercial Bank Achieves CONTINUOUS APPLICATION AVAILABILITY With Stratus Ftserver Systems

China Merchants Bank (CMB), one of China’s largest commercial banks, needed to ensure uninterrupted, secure access to its Internet, mobile and branch banking services as it expanded. Because even brief outages could harm customers, revenue and reputation, the bank sought a fault‑tolerant server platform to deliver continuous availability for virtualized core banking applications and meet regulatory availability requirements.

After evaluating options, CMB deployed Stratus ftServer 6400 systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle RAC and VMware in its primary Shanghai data center and a disaster‑recovery site in Shenzhen. The ftServer’s lockstep duplex hardware, Automated Uptime Software Layer and hot‑swappable components eliminated single points of failure and lowered TCO. Since installation in May 2014, CMB reports zero downtime for core banking applications, 24/7 transaction processing, avoided revenue losses, regulatory compliance and a scalable platform for future growth.
