PPL Electric Utilities, a regulated Pennsylvania utility serving over 1.4 million customers across 29 counties with more than 48,000 miles of power lines, needed to replace a retiring legacy system that governed high-value supplier invoicing and payments. The company required a scalable, auditable solution to validate, adjust, cancel, and approve invoices, catch data exceptions, provide self-service reporting, and reliably generate payment details for monthly settlements—often managing transactions worth tens of millions each.

PPL implemented a MicroStrategy transaction-based application that consolidates payment and invoice records, lets users make real-time voucher adjustments and approvals, and produces exception reports, supplier PDFs, and automated cash files for settlement. The system now controls and processes roughly $500 million a year, eliminates much of the manual and audit risk, speeds and improves invoice accuracy, and lowers operational costs through efficient, auditable monthly reimbursements.
