Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Trade Publishing (HMH Trade), a long-established U.S. trade publisher with thousands of titles and many award-winning authors, needed full visibility across the publishing lifecycle. Editors, sales managers, and executives struggled with disparate, often out-of-date reports, making it difficult to track publicity, sales, inventory, and the time and costs associated with reprints and shipping.

HMH implemented MicroStrategy’s INsight mobile BI to integrate multiple data sources and replace 300+ reports with a single, tablet-friendly application. The dashboards give 400 users (about 90 daily mobile users) real-time insights into titles, customers, sales trends and forecasts, improving operational efficiency, print-order planning, distribution decisions, and reducing reprint/shipping costs—results recognized by a Ventana Research Technology Innovation Leadership Award.
