Case Study: Fanatics achieves real-time, scalable self-service analytics with MicroStrategy

A Strategy Case Study

Preview of the Fanatics Case Study

Fanatics Chooses Microstrategy to Empower Business Users

Fanatics, the largest online retailer of officially licensed sports apparel with over $1B in annual revenue, collects massive volumes of data—from 30 million orders and 250 million website visits a year to social, event, and news feeds. Its Excel‑based reporting couldn’t scale or support self‑service and near real‑time needs, so the company sought a modern cloud analytics platform to empower business users and operationalize real‑time insights.

Fanatics moved data to AWS (Amazon Redshift), added a Hadoop layer for 500 TB of log data, and deployed MicroStrategy (including the MicroStrategy Cloud Platform) for secure, self‑service BI. The implementation expanded from 10 to 500+ active users, supports thousands of daily queries and seven large in‑memory cubes (~100M rows each), enables rapid drill‑down and elastic scaling for peak demand, and has shifted teams from preparing data to analyzing it for faster, data‑driven decisions.
