Scout24 is a leading European online marketplace for real estate and automobiles (ImmobilienScout24 and AutoScout24) with millions of listings and rapidly growing data volumes. The company struggled without a company-wide self-service BI tool: a costly core database became a bottleneck, data access was manual and slow, and decision-making relied on incomplete or delayed reports.
Starting in 2013 Scout24 built a federated, self-service data landscape—Hadoop and an Amazon S3 data lake accessed via Presto, with MicroStrategy’s semantic layer for reporting and Alation for data cataloging—backed by clear organizational rules and training. The result: time-to-insight dropped from weeks to minutes, 55% of employees are data-driven BI users, the platform scaled across sources and teams, and analysts moved from basic queries to deeper, actionable analytics.
