A Stratasys Case Study
Fusetec, the first commercial anatomical soft‑tissue reproduction company in Australia, faced a critical training challenge: cadavers are expensive, scarce and cannot be produced with specific pathologies, leaving medical students with limited, opportunistic practice. To overcome this, Fusetec turned to Stratasys and its J750 Digital Anatomy 3D printer to reproduce patient anatomy from MRI/CT data and create repeatable, realistic surgical models.
Using Stratasys technology (including TissueMatrix, BoneMatrix, GelMatrix and GrabCAD Print), Fusetec produces hyperrealistic models with 0.014 mm accuracy and materials spanning Shore hardness 0–100, enabling models that mimic look, feel and even bleeding. The result is repeatable, controllable training—courses have run with 40 surgeons using identical models—at a fraction of the cost of cadavers, improving surgical planning, trainee confidence and exposure to rare pathologies.
