A Stratasys Case Study
Utah Trikes, a producer of custom trikes, quads, and wheelchairs, faced significant obstacles in prototyping and manufacturing custom parts. The high cost and time required for small production runs, coupled with the limitations of their CNC machining and outsourcing, impeded their ability to quickly and cost-effectively test new designs. To solve this, they turned to vendor Stratasys and implemented their Fortus 3D printers using FDM Nylon 12 Carbon Fiber material.
The solution from Stratasys enabled Utah Trikes to rapidly prototype and produce strong, functional parts on-site. The use of FDM Nylon 12CF was a game-changer, providing the necessary strength for end-use parts and simplifying the process with soluble supports. This reduced their production time for a custom wheelchair from two months to just two weeks and cut costs by 8-10 times, allowing the company to focus on designing for functionality rather than manufacturing constraints.
