Case Study: USA Luge achieves faster sled development with Stratasys 3D printing

A Stratasys Case Study

Preview of the USA Luge Case Study

USA Luge cuts sled development from 6 months to 4 weeks with Stratasys

USA Luge, the organization responsible for developing the United States national luge teams, faced a significant challenge in sled design. With race outcomes determined by thousandths of a second, they needed to quickly test and customize sleds for each rider, but traditional manufacturing techniques took weeks to produce a single sled, severely limiting their pre-season development time.

Stratasys provided a solution using their FDM technology and ASA thermoplastic to 3D print composite lay-up molds. This process allowed USA Luge to create customized sled molds in just days instead of months. The implementation by Stratasys saved the team five months in development time per sled, reducing the process from six months to just four weeks and enabling them to build, test, and validate multiple designs within their short off-season.
