University of Florida cuts equine surgery time from hours to 20–30 minutes with Stratasys

The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in large animal care, faced a challenge in elevating its standard of treatment. Their objective was to provide optimal patient outcomes with less invasive procedures, but the level of technology applied to animals lagged behind human health care. To address this, they partnered with vendor Stratasys and implemented the Fortus 450mc 3D printer utilizing FDM technology.

The solution from Stratasys enabled the creation of patient-specific surgical guides, prosthetics, and implants. This significantly improved surgical accuracy, reduced procedure times from hours to under thirty minutes, and decreased the amount of anesthesia required for animals. The technology also lowered costs, making innovative treatments more accessible, and provided invaluable tools for client education and resident training, ultimately raising the standard of veterinary care.
