A Stratasys Case Study
The University of Camerino, a long-standing center for design innovation in Italy, faced the challenge of integrating structural optimization into the earliest stages of its design process while minimizing material use and giving students hands-on experience testing architectural and industrial concepts. To validate structural efficiency and speed feasibility checks, the university incorporated Stratasys’ Objet 3D printing technology, specifically the Objet Eden350V 3D Printer, into its Eco-Design and Eco-Innovation curriculum.
Stratasys provided rapid-prototyping solutions that let students and researchers print true-to-life scale models (for example, stadium and chair prototypes) to test topology-optimized designs early. Using the Objet printer, the team quickly proved one chair concept viable and ruled another impractical, reduced testing costs, significantly shortened lead times to production, improved design accuracy and finish, and helped define a repeatable structural-optimization methodology—giving students advanced tools and accelerating time to market.
