Toymaker Cultivates Imaginative Playtime with the Help of 3D Printing

Smoby Toys, a French toymaker in the Simba‑Dickie Group, faced slow, imprecise prototyping from traditional wood and plaster models that didn’t capture final-product detail or allow tactile evaluation—critical for safety, fit and playability of infant and toddler toys. To address these challenges the company turned to Stratasys and its FDM 3D printing technology to produce realistic, touchable prototypes earlier in the design cycle.

Using Stratasys FDM printers in‑house, Smoby can produce concept models and technical prototypes up to 250 cm3, run machines more than 18 hours daily, and iterate designs in hours rather than days. As a result, development accelerated by 50%, design validation happens earlier, creativity and risk‑taking increased, and Smoby brought products to market faster thanks to the Stratasys solution.
