The Institute of Cancer Research in the UK uses the Stratasys J5 MediJet to aid in cancer drug discovery and treatment

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London needed a better way to visualize complex, dynamic protein structures so researchers could design drug compounds that precisely fit target pockets. To meet that challenge, the ICR’s 3D print lab adopted the Stratasys J5 MediJet 3D printer to produce high-fidelity, biomolecular models that go beyond legacy filament-based prints.

Using the Stratasys J5 MediJet, the team created first-of-its-kind physical protein models with accurate ribbons, strands and helices, enabling researchers to see and work around protein pockets and accelerate drug-design decisions. The Stratasys solution has improved resolution over prior printers, supports printing anatomy models, guides and tools, and directly aids ICR’s drug-discovery efforts—building on the institute’s record of 20+ drug candidates since 2005, 11 of which progressed into clinical development.
