SUNY New Paltz Smart Lab Connects Businesses, Students, and Community

Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center (HVAMC) at SUNY New Paltz faced the challenge of giving students practical, workforce-ready 3D printing skills while also serving local businesses and the wider community. Partnering with Stratasys through the Stratasys‑MakerBot SMART Lab, HVAMC introduced hands-on additive manufacturing training and tools—including Stratasys Connex3 systems and VeroClear materials—to integrate 3D printing into curricula, a new Digital Design and Fabrication minor, and outreach programs.

Using Stratasys technology, the SMART Lab provided rapid, accurate printing services and real-world project experience—printing VeroClear molds for Lagusta’s Luscious and producing complex medical models for MediPrint—while supporting day camps and business collaborations. The Stratasys-enabled lab quickly reached full capacity (60+ students in the minor), expanded campus and community use, and helped 100% of students who worked in the lab secure jobs in their field within six months.
