A Stratasys Case Study
SUNY New Paltz needed to provide campus-wide, cross-disciplinary access to professional 3D printing while serving as a central print resource for regional businesses and preparing students for industry. They partnered with Stratasys to create the SMART (Stratasys MakerBot Additive Research and Teaching) Lab, outfitted with more than 40 Stratasys printers (Fortus and Connex systems) and over 35 MakerBots to support hands-on design, prototyping and community projects.
Stratasys’ equipment and MakerBot Innovation Center enabled SUNY New Paltz to integrate additive manufacturing across engineering, art, math and other programs, train students, and support nearly 150 local businesses including Mediprint. The Stratasys-powered SMART Lab delivers measurable results—hundreds of student projects, partnerships with almost 150 businesses, and curriculum changes requiring students to use 3D printing before graduation, giving graduates stronger, job-ready skills.
