Stratasys FDM Printing Enables Extended Customer Service Offering and Streamlined Supply Chain with SIEMENS

Siemens’ Mobility division was challenged to meet growing demand for one-off, customized low-volume parts — exemplified by a request from SWU Verkehr GmbH to redesign a driver seat armrest with three extra buttons — without the time and cost burdens of traditional tooling and outsourcing. To address this, Siemens adopted Stratasys FDM 3D printing, installing a Stratasys Fortus 900mc 3D Printer to bring additive manufacturing in-house.

With the Stratasys Fortus 900mc, Siemens shifted to on‑demand production of end-use parts, cutting turnaround times from weeks to days, enabling cost‑effective single-part runs, and eliminating obsolete inventory. Stratasys’ solution delivered repeatable precision (to within one‑tenth of the design measurement), compliant thermoplastic materials suitable for direct installation, and greater supply‑chain responsiveness — driving higher customer satisfaction and a new online on‑demand parts business for Siemens.
