Stratasys Collaborates with Daihatsu to Create Customizable Effect Skins for Cars

Daihatsu Motor Company, a Japanese manufacturer of small and lightweight cars, sought to give customers more design freedom by enabling personal customization of the Daihatsu Copen. To accomplish this, Daihatsu partnered with Stratasys and used Stratasys 3D Printing technology (including Fortus 3D Printers and ASA thermoplastic) to move customization from concept to real, exterior production parts.

Stratasys collaborated with Daihatsu and external designers to create “Effect Skins”—15 intricate, parameterized bumper patterns printed in durable ASA (offered in 10 colors) and engineered for real-world use. By providing materials expertise, application support and on-demand production capability, Stratasys enabled rapid design iteration, customer personalization, and improved supply‑chain efficiency, turning customizable designs into installable production parts.
