A Stratasys Case Study
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) sought to explore groundbreaking design at a microscopic scale to create multifunctional components and products. Researchers at its Digital Manufacturing and Design Center required a way to manipulate materials and structures at an unprecedented resolution to meet the specific functional and aesthetic needs of their specialized projects. They utilized the GrabCAD Voxel Print utility on a Stratasys J Series multi-material 3D printer.
Using Stratasys's GrabCAD Voxel Print technology, the researchers developed custom computational tools to control material properties voxel by voxel. This solution enabled them to 3D print complex objects like an interlocking table with material gradients and multi-material soft-lattice structures with spatially-variable properties. As a result, the team achieved a new paradigm for product development, prototyping design options very quickly and creating objects with superior functional performance that were unachievable through any other manufacturing method.
