Siemens cuts manufacturing time by up to 95% with Stratasys

Siemens Mobility's RRX Rail Service Center faced significant pressure on its supply chain due to the high throughput of trains requiring maintenance. The challenge was to fulfill a wide range of customer needs for replacement parts and specialized tools quickly and cost-effectively, especially for unplanned repairs. To address this, Siemens partnered with vendor Stratasys and implemented a Fortus 450mc 3D printer using FDM technology and ULTEM 9085 resin.

The solution from Stratasys enabled the on-demand production of one-off, customized parts and tools. This significantly streamlined the supply chain, reducing manufacturing time for parts by up to 95% and accelerating customer response times. The results included a reduced dependency on outsourcing, a lower cost per part, and the creation of new revenue streams by efficiently servicing low-volume jobs.
