SCEC Creates Lifelike Models and Displays with 3D Printing

Smart Company Exhibition Center (SCEC), a Seoul-based maker of exhibition models, faced long, labor-intensive production cycles and insufficient color and precision from an earlier powder-based 3D printer. Seeking faster, more realistic results, SCEC adopted a PolyJet™ technology–based 3D printer from Stratasys to meet its precision and color-reproduction needs.

Stratasys’ PolyJet solution delivered finer detail (layers as fine as 16 microns), dramatically shortened typical job time from a full day to three–four hours, and enabled unattended overnight prints and elimination of night shifts. The improved realism and throughput helped SCEC win major aquarium and exhibition work—including a $1,130,000 contract for paleozoic replicas for the Primorsky Oceanarium—spurred international growth, and supported the opening of a 3D printing service shop.
