Savannah College of Art and Design scales 3D printing for 12,000 students with Stratasys

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) faced the challenge of meeting the overwhelming demand for 3D printing from its 12,000-plus students across numerous majors. Their existing fleet of 19 Stratasys 3D printers struggled with student backlogs, which limited project iteration and access to the technology. To address this high-volume need, SCAD turned to vendor Stratasys for a solution.

Stratasys implemented its Continuous Build 3D Demonstrator, a cloud-based manufacturing system that provides an automated, continuous workflow. This solution enabled unlimited, parallel print jobs with no operator intervention, allowing students to print projects overnight. The results were transformative; SCAD could now serve hundreds more students, integrate 3D printing into new courses, and provide the rapid iteration necessary for professional-level work, directly helping students land jobs with industry partners.
