A Stratasys Case Study
Sam Houston State University’s Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT) set out to bring additive manufacturing to business, finance and nursing students so they could learn product development and solve real-world problems. To do this they worked with Stratasys, using tools such as the Stratasys Fortus 400 3D printer to enable rapid prototyping, testing and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
With Stratasys technology, students produced market-ready prototypes (including cups comparable to leading coffee shops), developed a hunting-support device that reached first-product shipment, and created prosthetics and assistive devices that restored daily functions—most notably a prosthetic that lets six-year-old Zoe play guitar, drink from a cup and use a phone, and a device that enables a wounded veteran to apply deodorant independently. The Stratasys-enabled program delivered measurable gains in product quality, student entrepreneurship and community impact.
