Case Study: RUSTIN achieves faster, more agile production with Stratasys FDM (Fortus 450mc & F370)

A Stratasys Case Study

RUSTIN takes production efficiencies and agility to new heights with FDM additive manufacturing

RUSTIN, a France‑based maker of advanced rubber and silicone sealing systems serving rail customers such as Alstom and the SNCF, needed greater efficiency and flexibility for prototypes and internal production tooling. To overcome long lead times and limited agility from traditional machining, RUSTIN invested in Stratasys FDM additive manufacturing—initially a Fortus 450mc 3D printer (purchased via partner CADvision) and later added a Stratasys F370.

Using Stratasys Fortus 450mc and F370 systems with materials like ULTEM™ 9085, ABS, FDM Nylon12 CF and FDM TPU 92A, RUSTIN moved many tooling and repair jobs to 3D printing, cutting lead times from five–six weeks to just days, lowering tooling costs by roughly 50%, and reducing downtime (for example, restoring an Alstom line in four days). The Stratasys solution also decreased machine downtime, capital and labor needs, increased production agility and capacity, and improved responsiveness to customers.
